Its landscapes were barren,
And the streets so flat,
An emptiness of wonders,
A bleak country,
Dull people,
Purposeless.
And I wander and see,
I wonder what I see,
A rain that doesn’t fall,
A fire that doesn’t burn,
A sun that can’t shine.
And I wander and hear,
I don’t know what I hear,
A music that doesn’t play,
A dog that doesn’t bark,
A wolf that can’t howl.
Am I senseless, deaf and blind?
Am I absent from the light?
Or have my senses betrayed me?
I don’t know,
I can’t hear,
And I can’t see.
